The Historic route of Ethiopia Bahir Dar, Gondar, Lailibella, and Axum

Day 1 - Bahir Dar - Lake Tana

A short flight from Addis Ababa will take you to this charming town situated on the bank of Lake Tana from which the Blue Nile begins. You will also visit the thundering Tis Issat falls. An hour cruise will take you to the monasteries on Lake Tana. Sightseeing includes the palace of former Emperor Haile Sellassie, Craftsmen and the colorful market

DAY 2 - Drive through the beautiful country side from Bahir Dar to Gondar.
Gondar is one of Ethiopian most fascinating cities and one of the worlds most mysterious. You will visit the Imperial compound In which seven Emperors of the Gondar dynasty built their palaces and castles.

DAY 3- Excursions to the Semien Mountains.
One of the most beautiful stretches of unspoilt wilderness surviving in the world today. Here are several of Ethiopia's tallest peaks including the towering Ras Dashen ( 4543 Mts), the fourth highest mountain in Africa.

DAY 4 - Fly from Gondar to Lalibella.
Name of the township which king Lalibella later canonized, ruled in the 12th century. At his command eleven monolithic churches were hewn out of a living rock. The churches are unique.

DAY 5 Fly from Lalibella to Axum.
Axum was once linked by a caravan route with the famous port of Adulis on the Red sea. It is said that the Queen of Sheba lived here with Menilik I her son from King Solomon. The great stelaes were built during the Axumite Empire.
