product spectrum of the tourist industry.

the development of new ideas, global

ETOA:
The Trade Association for European
Tourism
A
pan-European trade association for
European Tourism companies. ETOA has over
400 members, of whom approximately one
third are tour operators and online
intermediaries bringing business to
Europe. Our associate members are their
European suppliers, including hotels,
coach operators and tourist
attractions.
Aims
To create
commercial opportunities between buyers
and sellers in the travel industry and act
as a forum for cooperation between
members
To
influence European tourism legislation so
that it ensures members are provided with
a viable environment in which to do
business
To keep
members informed of the latest
developments in the issues that affect
their business
Main
areas of lobbying
VAT and
the Tour Operators Margin
Scheme
The
current scheme hurts EU-based tour
operators. It forces business offshore and
does nothing to help the European economy.
We are lobbying the European Commission to
make changes and so create a more
profitable business environment for our
members.
Escorted
Tours and Tourist Guiding
Some
European cities operate illegal practises
that restrict the freedom of tour managers
to act as tourist guides. We are working
with the European Commission and local
councils to stamp this out.
The
Package Travel Directive
The
Package Travel Directive is outdated,
takes no account of online sales and
effectively blocks intra-European trade.
We are working to have this reformed to
clarify the position for online
sellers.
